From the late 1960s, shortboard revolution had well and truly kicked in and some of the big wave pioneers themselves were developing their own board, making the outline sharper and narrower “GUN” shaped surfboard was born in Hawaii for bigger and powerful waves and spreading globally.
Then 1970s to very early 1980’s shortboard revolution was evolved and that ‘GUN’ shape reached up to 8 to 7 feet long for their own purpose, such as riding waves like a Pipeline, powerful, hollow, and compact waves compare to Waimea Bay or other big wave spot and the trend would continue…
I look back to that era of surfing history and I was very interested about the concept of those mini gun design and thought still suitable for particular waves nowadays such as powerful point breaks to hollow barreling waves.
Seventy-Seven was born and my modern concept of old school design for surfers who would like to go fast and shoot through some sizeable barrels!
